Jamestown is the beating heart of old Accra — a neighbourhood of fishing boats, colonial-era buildings, and murals that seem to repaint themselves every few months. If you've only got 48 hours, here's how to make the most of them.

Start your first morning at the lighthouse. Climb to the top for the best view of the coastline, then wander down to the fishing harbour to watch the morning catch come in. By midday, the Jamestown Café is the spot for a coffee and a break from the sun.

Spend the afternoon on a gallery walk — several independent studios have opened in the last few years, and most artists are happy to chat if you stop by. As evening falls, head to one of the rooftop spots overlooking the water for kelewele and a cold drink.

On day two, join a heritage trail walk if you can — a local guide will tell you stories about the neighbourhood you won't find written down anywhere. Round out the weekend with a street food crawl through the surrounding streets before you head home.
